Imagine if others knew how what they said and did affected you.
Imagine if others knew how what they said and did affected you.
Take a moment to reflect on this. How would it feel if someone really listened
to what you had to say? What reaction do you have if someone was rude to
you – or if they were having a bad day and took it out on you? What can
you remember about your last family or work gathering? How did others
actions affect you in a positive or negative way?
All outcomes to the scenarios above reflect on the social and emotional skills
each individual has. How we communicate with each other, resolve conflict,
manage our emotions and even problem solve are just a few of the areas
where what we do can affect the outcome of our day and the outcome of
those around us.
All of us already have these skills to some degree. Some, we have truly
mastered. Others we can identify to needing more work. The great thing is,
we can celebrate what we have and we can learn the others.
And once we learn and polish these skills, imagine the positive effect we can
have on ourselves and those around us.
Imagine how much better our lives would be, and stronger our community, if
we learned these skills, and if the people whose lives we’ve touched learned
from us and modeled them for others. Think of the concept 'pay it forward'
and how powerful its impact!
