A former Columbia College student majoring in Radio Entertainment, Marcos took his first position as a Custodian at Evanston School District. During his time there, he met Mr. Walter Edwards, who recognized his potential and began mentoring Marcos for leadership. From there Marcos’ interests and abilities grew, which led him further down the path into the role of Facility Manager at the Lake Forest Library. His tenure there lasted over 18 years and during this time he managed and mentored a maintenance staff. Marcos was provided with the opportunity to attend leadership seminars such as those sponsored by Charmm’d. Those experiences influenced his management philosophy and invigorated his desire to become a more effective leader, which lead him to a new position as Facilities Manager at Cook Memorial Library. Marcos believes that many people view leadership and success as climbing the ladder to achieve the highest position possible. While much can be accomplished from the top of the ladder, Marcos thinks the heart of leadership is not limited to how far one advances, but how far one is able to advance others. Marcos believes this goal can be achieved by serving others and viewing them as whole individuals. He always tries tapping into their skills so they can add value to themselves and the organization.

In 2020, Marcos accepted a new management position at Wilmette Public Library. Here he manages a diverse team of individuals – an experience that has broadened his leadership dynamic by addressing various challenges such as problem-solving, conflict resolution and team building. Outside of work he serves as a Human Relations Commissioner for the Village of Skokie. He is also a Board member/Advisor for Alice Discovery Academy, a minority-owned Daycare serving 90+ children, he serves as an Advisory Board member for The Charmm’d Foundation and he is on staff at a multi-ethnic Church in Waukegan.
